It's hard to believe it's been over 18 months since we did a show. In Summer 2022 and the beginning of 2023 we were going full steam ahead with an amazing string of shows. We haven't sent out an update about them but if you were on socials you might have seen the posts. We played:
Headline spot on Closing Night at Floriade Festival, Canberra, in a surreal atmosphere surrounded by fields of gorgeous flower displays. (We also visited the Mint and Parliament House and wandered around Braddon – a pretty cool district.)
Closing night at Cairns Festival – we played a show with a fun crowd on the lawn in front of the Court House Gallery (then headed further north to hang out poolside in Port Douglas, ride on the Kuranda Scenic Railway and eat lots of gelato.)
We had a killer show at Banshee's Bar & Artspace in Ipswich with DAMIEN, as a warm up to...
Our first Woodford Folk Festival! We played three shows at Woodford 2022/23. We had the honour of being the first ever band invited to play at the Gathering of the Build, for festival volunteers, in early December. At the festival itself we played mainstage at the Amphigrande after Boy & Bear, then The Parlour stage on New Year's Day, after the fire event. We stayed (dry! luxuriously!) in a motorhome (to make it bearable for Glenn... he had bad memories from his 2003 MGF Woodford experience – would not contemplate camping). The motorhome was a MAJOR bonus when it turned into a sodden super bog.
At Woodford we had a bunch of memorable experiences, the most extraordinary (other than playing) being meeting the Prime Minister without realising we had met him – We didn't know Albo was going to be at our stage while we were there, and he appeared at the door of our van when we arrived at the backstage area of the Amphigrande, offering to help us lug our gear! (LOL!! What a chap!) He had a tweed golf hat on and we didn't immediately recognise him in the dark (it was midnight.. and there was no security or a ministerial limo to be seen), but..... it niggled me that round, joyfully smiling face seemed awfully familiar....? Being polite, capable musicians we said, "That's ok, we're alright, thank you!" and humped our bags inside ourselves, and the minute we walked in the stage manager said "You just missed the Prime Minister. He was here getting a photo with Boy & Bear.... Ahhh.....! But he was gone: That was our sliding doors moment with the PM.
